Cheap, yet expensive! HOW?
You want to gift a toy to your kid and go to a Toy shop.
You see two similar toys manufactured by two companies
One is Made in some X country and is costly..
The other is Made in China and is cheaper..
You follow your common sense(!) and decide to buy the cheaper Chinese toy to your kid.. Anyway both LOOK the same.. You dont think it is necessary to understand why the other one is cheaper.. Is there any compromise being made to make it cheaper? You don’t care..
Two months later you read a report that the Chinese toy you bought is being recalled because of lead painting in it as it damages brain cells in children! But your child has already played with it for two months!
This is what exactly happened 1.5 million of the Thomas & Friends trains (Made in China) were recalled in USA as it was found that the toys were coated at a factory in China with the deadly lead paint, which can damage brain cells in the children
Cheap, yet expensive!
******************************************************************
You go to a pet food shop to buy pet food to your favorite cat.
You find two brands of pet food.. one costly
and the other as usual a cheaper one from China
You go for the cheaper one and your cat gets ill and is finally diagnosed for food poisoning.. somehow it survives.. and you discover that the Made in China pet food had wheat flour spiked with a chemical called melamine to make it look like an expensive protein-rich pet food!
This is what exactly happened!
Read the story here and here ..
Cheap, yet expensive!
******************************************************************
You car is fitted with cheap Chinese tires.
One day while you are driving your car.. you loose control and the car bangs!! You some how survive.. only to find that the Chinese made tires in your car lack the gum strip, a rubber feature that helps prevent steel belts inside the tire from separating or from damaging the rubber!
That is what exactly happened!
Such 4,50,000 unsafe tires were ordered to be recalled in New Jersey and the American importer of these Made in China tires said it is going bankrupt and cannot afford more than 10% of these recalls!
The moral is do not start a company thinking that you would make money by selling cheap Chinese products. Your company will end up a bad name becoming bankrupt !
Cheap, yet expensive! Not only for the buyers, but even for the sellers!
************************************************************************
Tooth paste.. Yes, something as straight forward as that
Let me not scare you again.. Lets go into the issue directly.
Glycerin is a permitted sweetener and a thickening agent used in tooth pastes
Chinese products have to be cheaper.. but Glycerin is costly..
So what do the Chinese do to manufacture low cost tooth pastes?
Well, use diethylene glycol which is a cheaper alternate to Glycerin
But is it safe? Who cares? Atleast the toothpaste manufacturers dont.
DEG (Diethylene glycol) which is meant to be used in anti-freeze now enters your mouth and body via the Chinese toothpaste ! It might be dangerous to children and to those with kidney or liver ailments !

Moral of the Story: Nothing comes cheap, For every cheap item there is a hidden cost associated with it! The more cheaper it is, the more expensive it will prove to be
BTW, are you aware of the Chinese bike manufacturing companies copying Indian bike models like Pulsar? There is so much of competition in the market that the Chinese companies simply dont have enough time or patience to manufacture products with their own design ! How many of you know that even the Indian Bajaj Autorickshaw is being manufactured and sold in China by a Chinese company that too with the same name! No time to think for a different name either!

Made in China = Low Quality
Chinese Govt is also realizing that the cheap quality will kill them too. I pity the Chinese consumers. They are having the toughest time. They cant trust their own home grown products. Their own country will kill them. Already the divide between poor and rich Chinese is enormous. And now this problem will surely make the kill. The true Chinese natives have forgotten what is revolution. They have been morally killed too. Work like bonded labours and hardly use any brain. There was a time when Chinese stuffs were pretty good in quality. And now it is the other way round. There can’t be anything worse than a China make!!
Hope China realizes soon that they have already axed their own feet. Now it is damage repair time for them.
Suggestion: When you go to buy anything.. take a look at the product.. If it is made in China.. simply put it back on the shelf. Buying a Chinese make is bringing Poison home. Spend a little more and buy Indian products or stuffs made anywhere but China. At tmes the Chinese products don’t mention the place of manufacture. So buy from reliable places and reconfirm about the product. Even Fisher Price products are made in China. Don’t go by brand.. (see Mettel toy issue). Simply stop buying anything Chinese.

Copy Cat China or C cube… A day will come when all the people from this land will be duplicates.. with duplicate brains. I suggest.. when you see anything made in China.. simply dont buy. Indian goods are way better than Cheap Chinese stuffs. Comanies with manufacturing units in China are realizing it the hard way. Even little Tiwan is way better in electronic goods. Chinese govt. wont do anything to control the quality. It is better for anyone in the world to refrain from Chinese manufactured stuff.

I agree with you in case of IP protection, China has a long long way to go.

But we Indians ourselves have our list of complaints against Chinese products in India…
They have been reverse engineering things left and right and mass producing them doing gross violations of all kinds of intellectual property rights … all kind of traditional Indian material have been copy cated by the Chinese..
They have copied our bike models.. even in the original bike name they just changed a letter.. Indian bike is pulsar.. Chinese copy cat of this bike is called gulsar with exactly the same design (pulsar reverse engineered by chinese engineers)! They tried to sell this bike in Srilanka, but after receiving complaints from the original Indian manufacturer Bajaj, Srilanka has banned the Chinese copy cat bike now…

more info about “”faulty tires”":
http://www.tirereview.com/default.aspx?type=wm&module=4&id=2&state=DisplayFullText&item=8692
China Says Tires Up to U.S. Standards, Blames Misuse for Fatal Accident
“”FTS noted that the van was equipped with three Westlake tires sized 245/75R16 and one Michelin tire sized 225/75R16. A review of the tyre guide indicated that the Michelin tyre was the correct size for that vehicle while the Westlakes, which were produced by the Hangzhou-based company, were not.
The 10-page report also mentioned that the Chinese tires involved in the accident far exceeded the U.S. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS).
A technician with the Chinese company said the van owner used two models of tires, which differed in diameter by as much as 30 millimeters on one side of the van.”"

“”But China sends more products into the United States than any of those countries, at least in terms of the dollar value. In 2006, for instance, China shipped $288 billion in merchandise to the United States, compared with $198 billion from Mexico; $22 billion from India; and $5.3 billion from the Dominican Republic, records show.”"
what about the percentage of rejection?
BTW the so-called “”made in China pet food”" is actually made in USA by a Canadian company using tainted material.

But China is definitely the maximum violator!!
2,723 items from China were rejected..
From India it was 2620 and from Mexico it was 1876…
So China is still topper in the list..
More than that what is worrying is Chinese goods are rejected for serious health concerns while other goods are usually rejected for not following the standards.. and that makes a lot of difference.. the scenarios mentioned in the article above happened only with respect to Chinese goods!
Yes, as you said its finally, ‘you get what you paid for’

China Not Sole Source of Dubious Food

Oh Yes.. all countries play their own politics..
In the name of democracy they go invade other countries..
In the name of cheap exports they export low quality items..
We need to do all we can to preserve the interest of our country.. but with a difference.. by not misleading other people.. and ensuring that the world returns to a golden age governed by India…

yes, i agree with you that cheap products usually leads to costlier medicines. Moreover i hate chinese goods, also for the fact that they are literally killing our small scale industries.
The US companies and USgovt too keep track of their competetors. if they find any threat to their country products, they try to sue them in some way and let that company not enter their market.
Remember the case of Mangalore Ganesh beedi? The beedi sale in US was going up like rocket, causing threat to local cigarette industry. Immediately Uncle-Sam sent a team to India to explore the maater. The team came up with a video coverage saying that the company used child labour and later proving that beedi was more dangerous that cig, thus banning it from being sold. http://www.rediff.com/news/1999/dec/01us1.htm
