Sep 073With the successful launch of the India’s multistage GSLV rocket carrying the indigenous communication satellite Insat-4CR on September 2, India has now become capable of launching satellites into Geo Synchronous Orbits with the only other countries in the world with this capability being US, Russia, European Union, China and Japan.
India with this launch has now not only lifted its DTH(Direct To Home) television dreams to new heights, but at the same time has successfully entered the multi-billion dollar industry of launching satellites into geo-stationary orbits, and India has affordable cost as its major advantage. This launch has enabled India to use its own launch vehicles from now onwards to launch all its communication satellites, there by also saving millions of dollars!
Communication satellites are placed in Geo-Stationary orbits so that they are always available to the control centre, because a satellite at an height of about 35000 kilometers will always be visible to a fixed point on earth as if it is stationary there, and the control center at that fixed point can always have its antenna pointed towards the satellite. In fact three such satellites can be used to cover the entire earth due to the great height they orbit at!
As mentioned by ISRO , the launch of GSLV has has demonstrated the operational reliability of GSLV as well as reiterated the end-to-end capability of ISRO to not only build state-of-the-art communication satellites, but also to launch them using the indigenously designed and built launch vehicle. into any type of orbit.

Al though this launch of GSLV used Russian made cryogenic engines for the final upper stage, from next launch onwards GSLV will be using indigenous Indian cryogenic engines built by Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) at Thiruvananthapuram in South India.
Cryogenics – A deep freeze story of India
Remember that when Russia wanted to transfer the cryogenic technology to India, America pressurized Russia against it, and the result is that today India has developed its own cryogenic technology and will be using it from the next launch of GSLV.
Sometimes I wonder what if the the human scientific knowledge had started evolving just now and if India had refused to transfer the knowledge of zero to America, then they wouldn’t have even been able to do simple mathematics properly
In fact India was never affected by technological restrictions in its space missions till the cryogenic episode occurred, because India always depended on indigenously built technology for space explorations ever since 1957 when the father of Indian Space Programme, Vikram Sarabhai convinced the then Indian government to start funding for space research.
But because of close Indo-Soviet relations when Russia agreed to provide cryogenic technology to India, the Indian research organizations stopped their research on this technology. This was one place where Indians thought of importing technology, instead of reinventing the wheel, especially when the wheel was ready to be shipped. But then came the American pressure on Russia against the supply of this technology to India, on the flimsy grounds of preventing proliferation, while it is common sense for any person with knowledge on missiles that cryogenic engines are a rarity in ballistic missiles, because the liquid oxygen of cryogenic engines boils off causing ice formation making it necessary to fuel missiles just before launch which is not practical in case of missiles, but makes sense in case of rockets! Launch of missiles is in a military sense and the launch date is not known, where as rockets/satellite launch vehicles are planned well ahead for a launch.
America also imposed sanctions against ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) in May 1992. And that was it, ISRO decided no more dependency on external technology and started developing its own cryogenic technology. In the mean time Russia, the good friend continued to supply fully built cryogenic engines. The first stage of Indian made cryogenic engine was successfully tested within six years of the sanctions, in 1998!
And today we are here with our own cryogenic technology. America might impose sanctions on India, in spite of the fact that a lot of the technology developed in America itself is because of many Indians who are living in America! But can they impose sanctions on brains (that are functioning within India)? Sanctions against innovating and thinking?
I many a times make fun with my friends saying India has so much of talents abundantly available that we even export them to countries like America
The lesson to be learnt in the cryogenic episode is that never again depend on external technology! Let us not think of building our own technologies as reinventing the wheel, let us instead make it inventing a better wheel! There is always a better way to do the same thing.
Super Computers
Take for instance the case of super computers. When America denied sales of Supercomputer to India, we had C-DAC set up to build our own supercomps and today India is one of the very few countries today which has its own indigenous tera flop super computers, the other countries being US, Japan, Israel and China! And what’s more? We did it a better way which is more cost effective than others using Massive Parallel Processing! Today India is an exporter of supercomputers! The Indian supercomputer series is named Param meaning supreme in Sanskrit.
Chandrayaan – The Mission to Moon
And now? India is planning to launch its deep space ambitions with a satellite launch planned next year to Moon! Called Chandrayaan-1 , ISRO will launch a satellite into lunar orbit using its PSLV launch vehicle. Chandrayaan-I will also contain two payloads from NASA! The wheel of time always keeps coming one complete circle
What’s more? ISRO has also planned Chandrayaan-II for 2010 using GSLV, in which it will send a rover to moon, a vehicle that will wander on the surface of moon for about a month to collect scientific data and material. The design of this moon rover will be based on MIP (Moon Impact Probe) of Chandrayaan-I which is a 29-kg instrument that will detach itself from Chandrayaan-I, descend some 100 km and crash land on the moon. IIT Kanpur is also designing a robot called SmartNav for Chandrayaan-II. The robot will walk on the surface of the moon doing experiments and collecting data. Note that no country has till today sent a two legged robot to any place outside earth!
AVATAR – Indian Gateway to Space Tourism
Anything else? Yes! Indian research organizations DRDO and ISRO along with other Indian organizations are developing AVATAR (Aerobic Vehicle for hypersonic Aerospace TrAnspoRtation), a reusable launch vehicle (RLV) which is a hyperplane which can launch satellites into space and come back! It can also be used for space travel!
The only other reusable launch vehicles in the world today are American space shuttles. But don’t think AVATAR is just another space shuttle. There are better ways to do the same thing. Unlike a conventional space shuttle which takes off like a rocket and only while landing lands like an airplane on a runway, AVATAR will do both take offs and landing like an airplane on a runway! Since it is still in design phase there are also thoughts about having AVATAR launch using a transport airplane kind of launch vehicle in the initial phase and then use the indigenously built scramjet engines to achieve hypersonic speeds.
The design of AVATAR has already been patented by India, and a technology demonstration version of this will take off some time late next year i.e in 2008. A single AVATAR is expected to be reused at least a 100 times!
To summarize it all, the days ahead will be simply amazing, interesting and fascinating. I invite all Indian youth to come and be a part of this journey. Let us not forget the fact that today the youth in India below the age of 25 are much more than the entire population of USA and USSR put together. More brains = more gains
Decide and act on your contributions on your personal capacities for The Great Indian Dream . Jai Hind!

Along with this a good association is must. Such association has set of methods/guidelines given by elderly person with detailed scientific explanation, and everyone follws it by will, and together.

Yes. Gurudev
The passion for knowledge and the ground work is essential for student. These two factors makes one an eligible student. If one needs authentication to the acquired info, practical knowledge (know how), help in recognizing this birth’s goal/ mere existance meaning and a direction to reach them (knoweldge Implementation Stage), he must surrender to Right Guru.??????? ?????????? ??? ????????? ??????

Yes, Knowledge needs authentication which in turn needs a teacher (Guru).
But then good books written by the same teacher are already authenticated as well!
Yes of course, if it is something related to practicing then a real Guru would be more useful than a book. But again given the age of internet where videos can be used as course material, a truly interested student can even learn techniques from these audio/video classes. But again, books/video cant completely substitute for a teacher, but can definitely be a lot more useful in the absence of a live teacher.
While the most important thing in teaching is the knowledge of the teacher, the most important thing in learning is the passion of the student.

It was grt to participate in discussion. I got more insight. Hope my new assigmnent (with restricted net access) allows visit the this blog often and learn lot from everyones contribution.
Thanks to Gurudev & Thanks to All.

Knowledge needs authentication. A right Teacher autheticates it. Everyone needs Guru. Take eg. of Sri Rama or Sri Krishna, they had grt sage Vishwamitra and Rishi Angira (correct me if i am wrong)respectively. Even Lord shiva meditates for Lord Vishnu and vise versa.
Finally Sri Krishna is called Jagadguru. If Gnana has to be Vignana one needs virtuous Guru.
I shall post why one needs Guru. and what are the characteristics of suitable teacher.

Be it vedas/ music/sanskrit/computers or whatever, as far as I am concerned I have been learning things on my own, my friends keep teasing me that since my name itself is Gurudev I dont need a teacher
What I intend to say is that, the existence of a teacher makes you learn things quickly and in the right direction in the right steps, since the teacher is already experienced. But in the absence of a teacher, if you start learning things on your own with passion, then your mind gets tuned into a self teacher over a period of time fueled by the thirst to know more.
So if you are not able to find the right person, you can start off on your own! In fact my teachers have been the books I read and now the videos and documents on the internet. There are two Kali (pronounced differently) in vedic culture. Both are differently pronounced and dont sound similar, but unfortunately since English is a language of spellings, both are spelled same way in English.
In Sanskrit and other Indian languages there is no concept of spellings, we right what we speak. So veronica is not written as v e r o n i c a
instead it is written as Ve ro ni ca where four compound letters represent the word and there is no spelling as such
So, For kali – one is kali (the daemon) and the other is actually kaaaLi (The Goddess)

Thanks guys I feel much better now after reading the articles mentioned. I have made the mistake of comparing the people in India to the Indians of my native country (Guyana) and Suriname where there are discrimination between the Negro and Indian race and the love of light skinned people by the Indians in these countries.
Years ago I had asked an ex colleague what type of books I should read because I wanted to know about the different Gods. He said I could choose Lakshmi but I wanted Kali and was not sure if she was evil as a child Kali had scared me. He said I was just like Kali. So now I am thinking about Kali. Yet I am being told that a teacher/ guru will appoint who is better for me. Is this correct?I certainly will try to find someone to guide me along.

Veronica, just search and pray for right teacher/guide. He/she must be able to recognizes and accept you as student based on your internal beauty. We wish you all the best in this direction.

There is no colour based discrimination (Apartheid) in India. Only caste system exists in some parts, and this too doesnt have roots in Indian culture. Please see http://hitxp.wordpress.com/2007/05/29/caste-system-is-not-vedic/
You may come to India any time and will be welcomed with open arms just like any other visitor. In fact most Indians believe in Athithi Devobhava meaning Treat Guest like a God!
Indians ourselves are both dark skinned as well as light skinned. India is a mixture of all skins black, brown, white, yellow. And this is just the melanin pigment in the skin, and it has got nothing to do with being beautiful or not
Many Indian movie stars are dark skinned also, many vedic gods including Rama and Krishna are dark skinned. At the same time there are light skinned movie stars too, and also Gods!
If we say that we dont like dark skinned people then Its like saying we dont like ourselves
And moreover dark skin is more healthy than white skin. The more darker you are means more melanin you have in the skin, and melanin protects against harmful radiation from sun, which is why people near equator have developed this. People from culture who are less exposed to sun dont have enough melanin and hence look white, while the reality is that they cant really survive in hot regions and will get sun burns very soon and are at higher risks for skin cancer than dark skinned people.
Right in my place there are about 15-20 Africans in the next street living a happy life in India. Even they go to shops, movie theatres, for a walk on the streets, etc. As far as the India I have seen is concerned, there is absolutely no color based discrimination here.
And yes, you do have a culture /race which you belong to. The common human race and culture which we all share
There is an entire African community living in India in the coasts of Guajarat state at a place called Jambur. They came to India during the ancient times of trade, but today they are very much a part of India, and since this region lies in one of the poor belts in the state, the local state government is helping them with employment, land etc under an affirmative actions program. They are called Siddis and are actually sufi muslims who believe that God can be reached by dance and music.
In fact some of the Africans like Ambar (who came to India as an Ethiopian slave) became rulers of a part of India before the British came to India!
In fact most Africans came to India in the ancient days as traders and ambassadors to Indian states, they came as slaves with Arab merchants and Europeans!

In this scene, the workers in the garage (in India of course) initially think that some American white people have come to buy some petrol and will talk to them about America and Americans, only to be fooled later when they come to know that these white people are actually local Indians who have developed Albinism

Veronica iam sorry to hear that if your saying “”if my skin was white i would have been welcome with open arms as some of my white friends are”" but in inida we always belived in “”athithi devobhava”" meaning guest is god. India welcomes everyone. But this indian attitdue was cunningly misused in colonial times for their advantage. If colonial traders( but they never had the courage or might for that) had fought like Alexander they would returned defeated like him. iam against the caste system too, skin , its only about 2mm deep. .you peel it ,we are all one and the same Its siad Krishna was dark and some people Rama was blue/dark . In India most of us are dark . it pains to hear that when people say that as if discrimation(caste) is only practiced in india. it will gradually decline someday.wel every society has its good and bad elements, in the past every other country or cultures had its share of caste systems disguised as slavery or on the basis of religion etc . If you want to learn you will learn irrespective of how some one treats you.have you read the story of Ekalavya.
good luck and you are welcome to india anytime its not that bad now as you have read about it -
I am quite proud that young Indians have a sense of self-worth India have produced many great sons and daughters in lots of fields whether it be scientifically or religiously. India has retained her great culture this is praiseworthy no other nation has done so. Yes some western men&women had the decency to acknowledge Indias contribution.
I personally have no bond with India it is just I have tried to read translation of some of the religious books and must say not understood them. Have read books explaining the translation and found a whole new world of understanding at the same time marvelling at the knowledge of old India in all fields of human and universal life. Discoveries that are being made with great telescope/ magnifying glad and computers were already mentioned in the Vedas etc. Yet very little mention is made of these facts usually in the by-line. What is this? This is what makes me mad. I think that the caste system have done India more harm that she can conceive possible and that is the reason she do not get the credit due to her. After all whiter the skin, higher up the ladder you are. I think this may have been the wild card that the white man has always played against India. He can do as he pleases he is white. Well I am not. You would not believe it but that is the reason why I have never visited India even though I wanted to come there, to learn Sanskrit have the knowledge explained to me etc. If my skin was white I would have been welcome with open arms as some of my white friends are. I am one of those lucky/ unlucky people who dont have a culture or race to belong to. Was brought up in a Muslim/ Christian home and surrounded by hindus. I believe once the knowledge in the ancient books are explained in everyday language many young people will recognise its depth and have both worlds at their fingertips the material and religious world integrated in their every day life. -

Veronica, your contribution and thought needs special mention. Your unbiased and concern for the rich, aboriginal Indian culture and intellectual strength is praiseworthy.
As Gurudev mentioned, yes this young generation must start ahead with correcting history. A united mass action would require collection of each young individual undivided contribution by mind, effort and thought. It all depends how much he/she can balance their personal life along with social service. Will they be ready to give-up/sacrifice their current trends of outings/entertainment and not so vital luxurious life? Will they realize that their life is aimless with just material gains?
Will they be able to find the joy of working together for the global goodwill to retain rich knowledge and heritage?
If they are able to ponder over these questions and conclude in unison, no one can break the unity and stop realizing the goals. -
Veronica
You are right about the need for Indians to step in into spreading the words about the contributions of India in the past, the confident India of the present, and the promising India of the future.India took almost 50 years after independence to come out of the odds and mess that the British had created and left. Not that we have completely cleared the mess, but we have definitely mastered democracy. One billion people staying together as a single nation and continuing to have faith in the system itself is a big achievement of the past half century.
Now that the system is in place, young India is taking the leap forward. Today’s young India is confident, has talent, has access to resources, and does not need the politicians or the political power to bring about and carry forward the change. And our generation has also initiated these activities of correcting the historical distortions. So this is just the beginning.
About having quoted western people, well I have quoted all those who have done unbiased studies and presented them to the world! I have even quoted many Indians too. For instance Swami Vivekananda, Paramahamsa, Gandhi, Chanakya, Tilak etc whom I have quoted in my articles are all Indians. But as I said earlier, after the British colonized India till today, it is only recently that Indians have started concentrating on their past achievements. Until then most of these things had been observed and documented by many of the unbiased western scholars and researchers like Mark Twain, Oppenheimer, Schrodinger, Bohr, etc
Yes, as you said BBC/America make documentary, and hype up even very small things that happen in the west. And this is what used to surprise me, because these countries really do not have an ancient heritage like India. At the most their buildings for instance, are 2-3 centuries old, while in India these are very very common things.
In fact hundreds and hundreds of structures in India are more than a millenia old and lots of them date back to pre-christ and even earlier!
So given this scenario, India has all reasons and potential to showcase its heritage and culture which is thousands of years old.India in fact is the only country in the world whose ancient civilization is alive and kicking even today. Even today Indians celebrate the same festivals, rituals, priests sing the same hymns in the temples, etc that were in practice in the roots of its ancient civilizations of Saraswati valley and Indus valley. All other civilizations like Egyptian, Mesopotamian, Babylonian, Mayas, Incas, Greek etc have been wiped out of this planet. Even Chinese civilization has been destroyed by the communist regime there. India continues to shine.
Till recently it was the shortage of funds and poverty that were stopping youth of Independent India from making these kinds of documentaries, videos, etc. Not any more! You can expect a reversal of the trends from west to India in the years to come.
Thanks to well advertised tourism campaigns like ‘Incredible India’ (see http://www.incredibleindia.org/), India is the most preferred travel destination in the world today. See http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/UK/India_is_No-1_travel_destination_Report/articleshow/2337933.cms
You can watch amazing videos of the ‘Incredible India’ at http://youtube.com/india , this is a government of India promoted campaign.

You young men and women must come together and make the changes. Stop bellyaching about the past and start spreading these facts worldwide. Facts mentioned on this site I did not know that its origin was in India.
India must not wait until a foreigner gives it credit for her achievements or for achievements that western nation derive from Indian based knowledge/ concepts. India must learn to blow her own horn. I have noticed that references are made to western authors who gives credit to India as a means of proof. This must not be. Here is where you are saying in other words the western man said so it is the truth. Bull
If you have one eye and want to be king the rest have to be blind and that is/ was the British policy. They are better, the rest is stupid or uneducated while stealing you blind of everything valuable that you have and making it their own.
All that western nations or whatever nation on earth uses that has its origin in whatever form must be mentioned in the Foreword of books over such subjects that the principle or contents over this subject has its origin in India (name and date of its developer) and was brought to the west ( name and date of the person).
Americans especially are very good at gaining worldwide acknowledgement for their achievements and India a silent giant is silent while others hug the credits due to her. India must develop a worldwide marketing strategy showing off her achievements past, present and future. For every little thing BBC/ America makes a documentary, where are the Indian documentaries? Foreigners has to go to India and make documentaries over India, why? The successful launch by India on September 2nd was not World News, why not. Don’t talk about being proud show that you are proud. If India even in this late date should kick up a stink about not getting credit where credit is due will gain international awareness of her contribution to the entire world and will be seen not only as a country ravaged by catastrophe and poverty, that is the only time that India is in the news world wide. -
Yes ursri, you are right, and this self respect is what we need to install inside the minds of kids and the younger generation. Self respect demands reasons for being proud about one’s roots and that is what is exactly missing today due to lack of information and westernised education systems.
For instance, It is Baudhayana who first discovered the relation between hypotenuse and other two sides of a right angled triangle centuries before pythagoras and also gave mathematical proof about the theorem, While pythagoras who just came to India learnt about it and then went back to europe and just stated this theorem that too without providing any mathematical proof!!
Still our schools teach this as a Pythagoras Theorem! This is where the change is required to correct historical facts about scientific ahievements. This is just an example. This gives sufficient reasons for be proud about one’s self. When there is strong enough reason to be proud, thats when others cant make you feel inferior no matter how hard they try
-
“”No one can make you feel inferior without your permission.”"
Eleanor RooseveltIt is lack of self-respect that led others to degrade us. What matters most is how we see ourselves. Its upto us now to live with majesty like Lion(when we are so) or remain like a cat.
-
Divya,
You are right in that there have been all types of attempts throughout the past few centuries to make Indians feel as if their culture and knowledge is worth nothing and western societies are the only great cultures.
But truth is something that cant be hidden forever. Especially not in the age of internet when information is available so freely and easily to all.Dr David Gray says ..the role played by India in the development (of the scientific revolution in Europe) is no mere footnote, easily and inconsequentially swept under the rug of Eurocentric bias. To do so is to distort history, and to deny India one of its greatest contributions to world civilization.
Yes I understand when you worry about kids of the people of Indian origin losing their cultural roots once they are born and brought up outside India. But that is something their parents should be worried about. I have seen many Indians in US who have returned back to India once their kids started growing, to ensure that their kids were in touch with their cultural roots.
The only real solution is to spread the facts and the truth. We need to do a reversal of what the colonial powers earlier did by spreading misinformation. We should start spreading the true information to those who are not aware of it. Change the education system so that Indian achievements and culture are highlighted. And by the next generation, the today’s kids by default will have this sense of pride and confidence and hope in them, and they will call the bluff when somebody says otherwise
-
I’ve read in one of the books of Dr Abdul Kalam – that when he visited NASA, he came to see the picture of an Indian king (I think it was Tippu Sultan) – because he was the first person who used rockets for the purpose of defence.
In response to Divya’s comments – The situation is certainly changing. Now a lot of people from all parts of the world acknowledge the depth of knowledge available in India.
And the knowledge India offers to the world is not just material knowledge that is perishable – it is the knowledge about ones own self – the knowledge that contains eveyrthing else.
This is why India has survived the physical and cultural attackes through ages – and the time is very near that we will again shine on top of the world, to spread the light to revive the values and wisdom.
Here’s few more amazing facts about India – http://amazedsaint-intutions.blogspot.com/2007/05/proud-to-be-indian-amazing-facts-about.html

Hi..
very informative ..keep goin India !! nd you too
i have a couple of questions, (not pertaining to this post)..your views on India’s position in the globe.Let all the people on this planet live happily..absolutely no problem, but let them not live on others indigenous brains and stolen knowledge..
We have no ego in sharing our knowledge..but shudnt we get the due respect and recognition/acknowledgement..
why do the foreigners potray they are mightier than others..is money the only measurable factor for someone to be mighty..
in the first place why at al this unheathly race to the top..can’t all of us be considered equal??now coming to the questions..
1) How do we get back our credibility? Everyone knows India has been the source to knowledge..lots to be explored and learnt from her..Learn from her..she will teach you but isnt it true that one should respect ones teacher…but how do we measure this?
2) From the vedic ages..everything has gone through changes and stand as a little proof..but can that be true with heredity?? No, Indian brains still are valued cos it isnt materialistic to be altered..It s from our ancestors. We prove to be intellectual as well as humanitarian over the ages..
3)we are exporting many ..fine. But aren’t we also contibuting to the American population , Kids of Indian parents are Americans..They carry with them “”our”" heredity and would soon be merged and lost..may be one day they would say we(foreigners) are intellectual, when you do inspect, they might have their genes rooted here.
4)will we be able to retain what now is jus remains and is ther any way we could get back what we have lost..most important of all our respect. when Indians ourselves speak so demeaning of our country, how do we command respect?
