Well music composition is an art and just like any art it it based on intuition. What I suggest is you take a melodious raga like say mohana and instead of concentrating on composing a tune, just keep playing it every day, probably trying to play at different tempo with different beats will invoke the creativity. Also try changing instruments while playing. Most importantly you need to put your soul into it, dont concentrate too much on technicalities.
In the mean time you can also have what you play recorded, but make sure that you remove the fact from your mind that you are recording what you are playing bcoz that distracts your creativity as you try to avoid making mistakes. So record the music, but ignore the fact that you are recording it, and just enjoy playing the raga.
Some time later, or say next day, just listen to what you played yesterday, and I am sure you will find some new tunes here and there. And the more involved you were while playing, the better the tunes will turn out to be. Once you find that you are coming out with good tunes, no matter how short or longer, then you can try tuning to one or two lines of literature. Pick up some good poems, by Bendre, Kuvempu (if you are a kannadiga), or any poet of your language, and try tuning to those poems.
From there it all depends on how creative you can be. To be creative, you need to be free of stress, not concentrate on technicalities and enjoy it.
Hope this helps.
